Google Project Loon

Recently Facebook brought Internet.org in India, and now Google is also planning to bring its Wi-Fi enabled internet balloons service to India. According to times of India report, Google is working with Indian government to bring its loon project to the entire country. Google loon project is internet project which uses high-altitude balloons to provide affordable internet in remote area and to around five billion people globally who currently have no access. Obviously the main aim of loon project is to connect more and more people to internet. Google already started its loon project as a pilot project in New Zealand. Like mobile phones now day’s need of internet is also essential part of people life, and keeping this thing in mind Google want to cover all worlds through internet via loon project.The main specialty of project loon is high quality of internet with minimum costs and its mainly for remote areas where to provide internet is only dream.

Mohammad Gawdat, VP of business Innovation at Google X told Google plans to launch a commercial format that will allow coverage on “every square inch” on earth by 2016.He also said that company is working very closely with telecom providers and governments across the world including India to bring loon project in India.

Project loon is little bit different form of network because it uses balloons that travel 20km above the earth in stratosphere, and move with the stratospheric winds which cover entire earth. With help of Project Loon software algorithms and antennas they carry, the balloons are connected wirelessly with each other. The balloons are 15 meters in diameter and 12 meters in height including whole gear and balloons are made from polyethylene plastic. In 2013 Google launched project loon and now project loon has the capacity to launch up to 20 balloons per day. Check out the intro video of Project Loon:

Google has believe that this new balloons technology will reduces cost of material which are required to build current internet network and reportedly Google working on wind power project too. Google also looking for to bring their wind project in India.
